In their ServiceMeshCon talk, Sergio Méndez and Jossie Castrillo present a guide to creating chaos engineering experiments while taking advantage of a service mesh. This talk is based on Jossie’s thesis which was supervised by Sergio, professor at San Carlos University in Guatemala. They discuss the challenges students face developing and researching cloud native technologies to find valid use cases for chaos engineering applicable to real-life situations. The talk concludes with a demo where Jossie uses Linkerd to generate faulty traffic and Chaos Mesh for additional chaos experiments while Sergio explains how to interpret the collected metrics and data.
